The opening track of Mankind's Afrikan Folklore mixtape addresses the day-to-day struggles faced by the black masses in South Africa. It addresses landlessness, deprivation and poverty. “Sithwele nzima” is isiZulu for “we are heavy-laden”, an acknowledgement of the heavy load of institutional subjugation of Africa as a continent. “Ejaardini sebe onjandini – sesiphila ngovalo ezindlini iingane ziphenduk’ iindlavini” – Mankind da Original Man also speaks to the drug (nyaope, tik-tik, etc.) epidemic destroying black and coloured communities across the country. The track also highlights how the heavy load of poverty drives a substantial portion of the crime epidemic in SA.
