“Hunger” picks up the narrative of the track “Sithwele nzima”. Mankind uses Desiigner’s “Panda” instrumental to address the cause and effects of hunger/ deprivation of resources. The track speaks to how hunger can turn friends into enemies and cause rivalry among siblings. “Hunger can make politicians sell out a nation, it’s all up for the taking – more so when the hunger pain is aching” shows how far a hungry (or greedy) individual would go to secure their personal escape from hunger. After all, the need to eat is the most fundamental of them all. The Original Man also references the “apartheid pay” phenomenon in the line “ngenxa yobuhlanga senza umsebenzi ofanayo singaholi ngokulingana” (translation: different races earn vastly different salaries for doing the same job).
