The Bloop is part of my Songs for the Land series, inspired by the mysterious ultra-low-frequency sound detected across the Pacific Ocean in 1997. Although scientists later proposed natural explanations involving Antarctic ice, the signal remains one of the most fascinating examples of how little we truly know about the deep ocean. This song imagines the moment that sound first emerged from the darkness: a vast, distant pulse traveling through the planet's largest wilderness. The result is a meditation on mystery, scale, and the hidden forces still moving through the natural world.
