Young M.A — “Don Diva” feat. Rubi Rose

Big SteppaYoung M.A has been queen of her city since the breakout “OOOUUU” rocked airwaves in 2016. In the half-decade since, M.A has treated fans to a steady stream of singles and freestyles, all culminating in her 2019 debut, Herstory in the Making. The independent artist is no stranger to adapting her swagger to the times, but also forcing the times to keep up with her, as most recently evidenced by her “Ooouuuvie” freestyle.

M.A’s most recent effort, Off The Yak, continues to impress with crisp production and delicious quotables about stealing women and being all types of iced out. As she told Audiomack in April, “I’ve always been versatile, so nothing is ever going to always sound the same… But I definitely tapped into the old M.A on this project.” At this intersection is standout “Don Diva” with Atlanta-based rising rapper Rubi Rose. Produced by JayUncut and SOUNDSfromIKEY, M.A and Rubi trade verses about frosty wrists and heartless hookups. The wonderfully stilted percussion provides a great playground for the two artists to talk their shit.

“I’m the don,” M.A tells Audiomack of the single. “Of course, she’s the diva. We're going back and forth on the track like a don and diva would do. We used that as inspiration for the music video paying homage to LL Cool J's 'Doin It' visual. Shouts to JayUncut and SOUNDSfromIKEY on the production. This beat is fire.”
