Every year on 31 August, today, the world marks the International Day for People of African Descent, an occasion to recognize the rich contributions, history and cultural heritage of people of African descent around the world. The day also draws attention to the challenges faced by people of African descent, including racism, discrimination, inequality and barriers to social and economic opportunities. For Pan-Africanist and Reparations Officer at Africans Rising, Eunice Adhiambo Odhiambo, the day is a reminder of the deep connections that link communities across continents and of the importance of building a future where African heritage is celebrated, respected and protected.
