Leke Leke is yoruba name for type of bird called cattle egrets, and in yoruba there is an adage that goes with this bird. basically the bird is so white that they use it to symbolize purity, so the adage goes “leke leke bami le ke” which means take out of the darkness from my fingertips and put your whiteness on my fingertips. however in the song this bird is represented as a girl and i’m saying to this girl that she should come and brighten up my life up with her whiteness.
The Chorus;
“Leke Leke bami Leke (yeah )
Te te bami loko (yeah )
Leke Leke bami Leke (yeah )
Biko baby bami l’eko (yeah)”
this means that she should bring whiteness into my life when i’m broke (Oko means village to symbolize poverty) and also when i make (Eko means Lagos to symbolize success)
