Simple Hughes is a collection of songs inspired by Jesse B Semple. A character created by Langston Hughes in 1943, for a column in the Chicago Defender. Semple’s dialog is insightful, flawed, humorous, and sometimes vulgar. He is not politically correct and is rarely grammatically correct but his points are pivotal. Through conversations with friends over beer, he details the Black experience of the average Joe in America. The goal of this project isn’t to emulate Jesse B Semple or Langston Hughes. It’s simply, to give you my story thus far. My ups and downs, my ignorance and insight, my dreams and weary blues. I hope you love it. Enjoy
