Southern California hip-hop duo The Gooneez was formed in 2012 and consists of first cousins, Dre & Frank. Their debut album, ‘Astoria’ was released in 2013 with a feature from a then young new MC outta Pittsburgh, Mac Miller. The song ‘Weed N Rhymin’ with Miller lead to a slot on XXL’s The Break section known for introducing rising upcoming artist. In 2014, while performing on the Hollywood Sunset Strip club circuit, they had a chance encounter backstage at one of those shows with a then unsigned pre GKMC Kendrick Lamar who ended up being featured on their follow up album ‘Anonymous’ with the breakout single “Too Strong”. The album solidified the cousins place in the Golden State’s young talent to watch from the west coast.
