Released in 2022, and slated to be re-released and included in Ephemera, “YOU DIED” is the first track on which I experimented with mixing gaming soundtrack influences into EDM. If you played even just one session of Elden Ring—or, really, if you’ve been on the internet at all last year—you’ve seen the game’s viral YOU DIED in red letters over a black screen. The game reached pop culture fame for being extremely hard, and the track “YOU DIED” recreates this level of intensity by turning sampled sounds from the game as instruments and using high-drama game vocal lines before bass drops and major beats.
