“MAMI” was originally written as a tribute to my late mother. I started with the intro, then a week later, a different inspiration came to me—the chorus, which became a love song. Instead of choosing between the two ideas, I decided to bring them together. Some of the lyrics are about remembering my mother and the pain of losing her, while others express love for a woman I deeply care about. I’m releasing it on September 27, the anniversary of my mother’s passing. It may sound unusual, but for me, it represents two different kinds of love coming together in one song.…
