Candy-coated Pill is the third studio extended play (EP) by American singer-songwriter and record producer Marian Renta released March 25, 2022 and is Renta’s follow-up release to Great Deep (2021). The EP’s lead single “Shot in the Dark” was released February 2, 2022 and was accompanied by the song’s music video that premiered on Youtube the same day. Broader in sound than her previous EP, Candy-coated Pill is an alternative pop fusion of indie rock, electronica, and soul, and contains wider use of drum accompaniment compared to Renta’s previous work. Its release was supported by the premiere of the title-track’s music video which aired the same day as the EP’s release.

'May (Alternate Mix)' is a single from American singer-songwriter Marian Renta. It is an alternate version of 'May' from the 'Great Deep' EP.  Renta has stated this was the originally intended version of the song but was swapped for a piano-only version she produced at the last minute, instead. 'May' explores themes of nostalgia, longing for an unfulfilled romance, and the anniversary effect (a collection of disturbing feelings, thoughts or memories that occur on or around a date that marks a significant event). The single contains one track, and features Renta on piano throughout. Renta's vocals are performed in a mezzo-soprano tessitura, and her vocals are performed through the use of melisma in the chest and head voice ranges.

The original version wrestles with the theme of longing for a lost love. The 'Great Deep (Dub Mix)' single contains one track, and was remixed and produced by Renta herself. It contains intermittent vocals and instrumental drops throughout, much to the likeness of Dub remixes of club songs in the 1980s. The track features Renta on piano throughout. For the song's lyrics, Renta drew from her personal experience of a friendship turning romantic.
