Behind the Song
Joe Hill, the textile union organizer in the early 20th century, was framed by the government and sentenced to death by firing squad. The night before he died, his followers came to say goodbye. His last words to them were “Don’t mourn: Organize.” This song speaks to that call to action that can be a guide in personal and political periods of turmoil.
