Bolanle is my given name, derived from my native heritage. During my formative years, I harbored a dislike for this name. It was a sentiment I kept concealed, for I felt ashamed to reveal my true identity. As children, there was a song we used to sing, in which Bolanle was portrayed as the “bad guy” in the tale, and this mockery further fueled my desire to distance myself from it. However, as I matured, I came to realize that there was no need for me to be ashamed of who I truly was. If my aversion to the name stemmed from a childhood song I didn’t fancy, I now possessed the power to redefine the narrative and introduce the real Bolanle to the world.
