“On my Own” by iSmooth is a melodious rap, which has a blend of afrobeat and a rhythmic chorus which is rendered by Adon Edeke, a rich and resonant vocalist. This two minute track is laced with layers of vulnerability expressed across each line as the rapper mourns over years that have been spent in futility; times in which he has tried to be self-reliant and live a life of meaning based on his standards. It is a compelling story compressed and beautifully narrated into a few lines wherein the rapper admits that all efforts on his part to navigate life by himself is needless and vain. He confesses his need to trust and rely on someone who is more powerful than he is - God.
