Preemptive surrender.. I think that's what this song is about. The kind of surrender where change is within your grasp, but you fail to act on it due to whatever convenient reason based on the current state. Whether love (usually is), work, dreams or a myriad of other options, it sucks giving up on something great because it's not a guarantee that you can get it back.
