"Machine" was written and recorded within the year 2009. At the time, I had somehow willed myself from doing Open Mics in New York City to shows then paid shows, and then national tours. It's a strange experience to go from sitting on your block and having your friends downplay your ambitions to being thousands of miles away from home and being looked after by complete strangers. In the beginning, when I was doing Open Mics, I didn't really expect that anyone would request, much less pay to see me perform outside of the city in which I grew up.
