Juan Pablo Gallego Álvarez, artistically known as Cheo Gallego, is an emerging artist hailing from Itagüí, Antioquia, Colombia, who with his melodious Hip-Hop and rap music has become a sensation on YouTube and his hometown. Before making the rounds with his urban poetry, Gallego, who comes from a humble family, managed a small cockfight business and picked up vocal technique classes at the Casa de la Cultura in his hometown. His passion for music was born at a young age during his school days, when his classmates and professors would ask him to freestyle to the rhythm of modern songs. His viral moment first came when he took inspiration from stories his elderly neighbor would tell him as a child, leading him to create “El anciano y el niño”, a heartfelt rap song. His freestyle became such a hit that teachers and students alike sang the song a lot, especially this verse: “I feel something in my head / it hurts me several days ago / my words get tangled / I don't speak well yet / my eyes weigh heavily on me / my health is running out.” With compositions that focus on street life and young love, such as “Anduve”, “Timidez”, among others, Gallego became the most famous rapper in Itagüí. He leaped to stardom thanks to his viral videos on YouTube, such as “El anciano y el niño,” which have led him to have great exposure in places such as Mexico, United States, Spain and South America, as well as local stardom through concerts in schools and festivals around his native Antioquia. But the recognition doesn’t stop there. He has also caught the attention of many artists, producers and investors in the music business. As Gallego continues to cultivate his music career, his main goal is to become a renowned artist in the Latin Hip-Hop scene, to ultimately help those in need and pave the way for a new generation of freestylers.
