3D printing allows designers to quickly transform concepts into prototypes or models (a.k.a. Rapid prototyping ) that allow designers to rapidly create models or prototypes, and to modify designs. This allows manufacturers to make items according to demand rather than in large quantities. It also improves inventory management and reduces the amount of warehouse space. The remote locations of today can make objects otherwise impossible to reach. From a practical perspective, 3D printing can save both money and materials compared to subtractive techniques, as very minimal raw materials are wasted. And it promises to change the nature of manufacturing and eventually allow consumers to download and print complex 3D objects, like for instance, electronic devices in their home.
