I met Koncept in Norfolk, VA, years ago, through my Groovemnt bros — I’d catch him live often and always respected his ability to wordsmith and deliver. “Bad Man Coming” started as a production challenge I made for myself, just to cook up something for Instagram using my upright bass. While visiting VA, I hit up Koncept, and he pulled up to my dad’s man cave. In that first session, we each laid down a verse and the track found its purpose. One of my favorite touches is the pitched-down intro. Koncept’s voice sounds dark and heavy as he talks about walking in light. This song is about misperception and moving in light with excellence, confidence, and strong boundaries.
