This song is about loving someone and holding them at a distance. The lyrics of this song came to me right after a trip to Ethiopia, where my parents are from. I was wrestling with all the love I felt and people I came to know, and the distance I knew would follow. The urgency to finish this song came from AlunaGeorge’s call for submissions to the Aluna’s Room Mix series. We had a week to finish the production, record my vocals, mix, and master. We submitted at the last minute and made the mix as the closer! That was a sign to keep going. It’s an honor to share the platform they’ve built, especially for my first release.
