After becoming a NATO member on February 18, 1952, Turkey embarked on an integrated modernization program on its armed forces. The Turkish Army sent a war to Korea, where they had played an important role. By the end of the 1980s, the second restructuring process was initiated. The Turkish Armed Forces involved in the European Union Combat Group under the control of the European Council, known as the Italian-Romanian-Turkish Combat Group. The Turkish Armed Forces also contributed operations staff to the multinational Eurocorps troop corps operated by the European Union and NATO
