There was a particular kind of summer in postwar America that
belonged entirely to kids. No schedules, no screens, just a
neighborhood and the slow drift of the day. Rick Randlett grew
up inside that world, in Levittown, Pennsylvania, where his
family moved in 1956 into one of the country's first suburban
developments. He was part of a generation that roamed freely,
came home for supper, and spent their evenings catching
fireflies in the yard.
Remembering Fireflies, the fifth Orchestra Indigo album, is
Randlett's musical portrait of that time. Twelve original
compositions trace the feeling of a childhood summer from its
wide open middle to its quiet end. The music blends melodic
piano, atmospheric keyboard textures, and layered electronic
tones into something unhurried and warm.
