Mbuna fish are a group of African cichlids that live among the rocks in Lake Malawi. They are very colorful and diverse, with over 200 species that belong to 13 genera. Mbuna fish are endemic to Lake Malawi and have evolved into over 295 described species that belong to 13 genera. The riddim was created to raise awareness for this species of fish that many Malawians don't know about. Mbuna fish may face some threats from habitat degradation, overfishing, invasive species, and climate change. Some species may be more vulnerable than others, depending on their distribution and population size. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has assessed some Mbuna species, but not all, and the results vary from least concern to endangered.
