"It sounds like being unchained", I remember Murasaki say, when he previewed the track for me. Also remember how happy I felt, cuz I couldn't word it better myself. The whole idea for the song came about while I was doing shred practice. That's where the intro solo came from. From that point, I decided I wanted to do a bluesy song, equal parts harsh, equal parts smooth with a melodic, haunting feel (as I'm used to, lol). With the lyrics, I explored the theme introduced in the title track "This Is" - mental demons, fears. Like the name of this track suggests, it paints an image of taking a literal and figurative walk in the dark and attempts to provide some respite. The lyrics are sung harshly in some areas and softly in others. The bridge section has a lot of vocal harmonies going on.
