Marzz — “Love Letter”

From church choirs to signing with RCA, Louisville-born Marzz’ R&B tones gently wash over you. Marzz found courage to come out from her inspirations—Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and Kirk Franklin—and was discovered by Timbaland in 2019. Marzz used to upload Ella Mai and Teyana Taylor covers to social media before releasing her debut label single, “So Frequently.” Her imaginative writing drives her 2021 debut EP, Love Letterz.

On “Love Letter,” Marzz stands her ground over dreamy production accents. Between the bright synths and Marzz’ lilting expressions, “Love Letter” sounds like drifting along a sundrenched poolscape. Drawing from her beloved Ms. Lauryn Hill, Marzz slips between soothing vocals and a pointed rap motif, which we can imagine having been written down in one of her nearly 30 notebooks.

“‘Love Letter’ is basically the first song I’ve ever written,” Marzz tells Audiomack. “It’s the first time I put my true feelings into something I cared about. It’s one of the most special humbling moments I believe I’ll ever experience. The feeling of sharing how you feel so that others can relate is an amazing thing.”
