Kasien — “DO WHAT I LIKE”

UK rapper Kasien found paradise in hell. At least, that’s what you can glean from his 2020 debut EP. In the years between kicking rhymes as a young teen to releasing the EP in his mid-20s, Kasien went through phases of finding his sound, including leaning into a punk aesthetic that continues to reverberate through his most recent releases. Blending his wide-ranging music tastes—grime, garage, nu-metal—and the touchstones of his time in Lagos and Jamaican heritage, Kasien delivers a sound that colors outside the lines of the UK underground.

On new single “DO WHAT I LIKE,” Kasien’s quiet tone takes on a dancey production. For a small song—it’s not particularly long nor bombastic—“DO WHAT I LIKE” can fill a room with good vibes. Kasien stunts in a whisper, but a larger-than-life cool overtakes the song by the end. He’s something of a lounge singer, pulling you in through wispy tones that end up sticking to the ribs for days on end.

“I wrote this song when I was living my best life,” Kasien shares with Audiomack World. “This song is about feeling free and confident to overcome whatever challenges life throws my way.”
