On June 7, 1979, Kenny Gamble, Ed Wright, and Dyana Williams, a group of black leaders within the music industry, initiated and lobbied President Jimmy Carter to declare June as the celebratory month for Black music.

Black music and culture are central to Audiomack. Alongside the ongoing fight against police brutality and racial discrimination, we’re bringing awareness to African-American Music Appreciation Month, aka Black Music Month, with content and initiatives meant to educate, entertain, celebrate Black music, and uplift our community.

For the remainder of June, we will be launching a series of playlists, discussions, videos and more under the theme of Say It Loud!

At the beginning of each week, we will be highlighting the facts and history behind Black Music Month, including fun facts and notable achievements.

Tuesdays: Playlists: For Us, By Us

Our specially curated Black Music Month playlists showcase the power and breadth of Black music across a variety of genres. Launching tomorrow (June 9), each playlist will be refreshed every Tuesday.

Wednesdays: Podcast: Industry Discussions

New podcasts will center on Black leaders in the music industry sharing their perspectives and key insights into their successes.

Thursdays: Vinyl’d & Verified

Our new social video series traces the sounds of classic records through today’s hip-hop. Time travel with us as we dive into the evolution of sampling in Black music.

Saturdays: Caribbean Riddim

In celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month, weekly DJ sets will pay homage to each of the islands.

Sundays: Get Together

Our Instagram Live event series will close out each week with interviews, performances and more, including Insecure Sundays, Afro Beats & Brunch, and Vinyl’d & Verified DJ sets.
