Audiomack Presents: 20/20 with Maaly Raw; 20 minutes, 20 samples, one fire beat.

Welcome back to 20/20, the Audiomack series where we give our favorite producers 20 minutes and 20 Splice samples, and watch them flip these layers of sound into one impeccable beat, showing off how they are moving music forward on the fly. For this episode, we’ve got twice-Platinum Philly producer Maaly Raw, best known for his work on Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv is Rage 2.

“I like to start with a melody,” Maaly explains. “That kinda gives me the whole, overall vibe of the beat. After that, I like to throw my drums on it, and then I just go from there.” Maaly cycles through his sample pack, featuring loops from the likes of Chef Aiden, Sonny Digital, and Lex Luger: the perfect mix of thick synths and punchy drums. Working in FL Studio with only a keyboard, Maaly begins assembling a bright and spastic melody, layering in the dark tones fans love.

Switching from melody to drums, Maaly Raw also brings in some crushing bass notes to round out the track. “I like to mix as I go,” he details. “I don’t really like to do it when, like, the drums is rough… I like to lay out my tag as I go,” he adds, re-pitching his tag to keep every beat unique.
