Hailing from Corpus Christi, Texas, SoGone SoFlexy’s barking delivery commands attention. Signed to Kevin Abstract and Romil Hemnani’s Video Store Records, the artist first caught our ear with his feature on BROCKHAMPTON’s “COUNT ON ME,” as well as “WINDOWS,” and his May single “Big Wide Body” was hard Southern fare.
His latest single, “Nueces County,” is a plodding romp through SoGone SoFlexy’s subconscious. Produced by Heartbreakbari and Mariano Herrera, the song’s clever use of vocal layering and rattling percussion results in a slew of intriguing textures. “Nueces County” zooms by in just two minutes, but the gravelly and assertive tone SoGone SoFlexy brings to the track demands repeat listens.
“I ain’t shit without Corpus Christi, Texas,” SoGone SoFlexy tells Audiomack World. “The city itself, the county jail, the trenches, the struggles I've overcome with still being from Corpus, I've seen all of the different environments within the city, and I'm still here. Hated by few, loved by many. I'm highly favored in my city, and I rep my city like a gang member would rep his faction.”
