Ryan Trey — “Change Of Plans”

St. Louis native Ryan Trey can “Slide” on any beat and breathe new life into the trap soul genre. Since the release of his 2018 breakout EP August, and more recently on his A 64 East Saga project, Ryan has been fine-tuning his chronicling of thorny heartbreaks and the “Pressure” that comes along with his newfound success.

On “Change Of Plans,” Ryan trades in his signature lowkey rap style in favor of new-age balladry. The track has a refreshing level of emotional depth. Ryan croons to a mystery lover with lyrics that toe the line between apathetic and remorseful. His toxic ways may overshadow his intentions but it’s this self-awareness that adds to the song’s charm.

“I wrote this record about someone who I had everything planned out in my head with, just for things to have a completely different outcome than what we both imagined,” Ryan Trey tells Audiomack World.
