It’s nearly impossible to think of melodic rap in 2021 without mentioning the powerhouse that is Rod Wave. Breaking onto the scene in 2019 with his multi-Platinum viral hit “Heart On Ice,” the St. Petersburg native has racked up over 835 million streams to date on Audiomack and cemented his status as our first #UpNow artist.
Over the last couple of years, Rod Wave has continued to cultivate his sound, staying true to his unique brand of painstakingly honest music, fusing the worlds of hip-hop and R&B in an effortless fashion.
Fresh off the release of two new singles—“Street Runner” and “Tombstone”—in preparation of his forthcoming album SoulFly, set for release this Friday, March 24, Rod joined Audiomack for the latest installment in our Trap Symphony series.
Recorded at Doppler Studios in Atlanta at an exclusive live performance, Rod Wave performs one of his biggest records to date, Pray 4 Love standout “Rags2Riches,” backed by a live orchestra. Rod’s gravelly voice atop the live instrumentation highlights the pain in his lyrics.
Stay tuned for more performances from Rod Wave’s Trap Symphony, coming next week!
Shot and edited by Erikson Corniel, Trap Symphony features music direction and mixing by John Cleary, and instrumentals by the Noir Orchestra.
Rod Wave’s Trap Symphony follows performances by Lil Durk, Roddy Ricch, Migos, Chief Keef, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Rich The Kid, Trippie Redd, and Burna Boy. Trap Symphony has been described by Billboard as “truly must-watch cinema” and by The FADER as “surprisingly emotional,” while Noisey said, “You should absolutely watch every damn second of it.”
