Mooder 3ks — “Habits”

Indianapolis rapper Mooder came from instant noodles and canned ravioli. Today, he’s one of the most exciting prospects from his city, as we noted back in December’s “10 Rappers You Should Know” column. In 2020, the artist dropped SpaceTime, which was followed up by February’s HeartBreak Island. Across both projects, Mooder stands out via storytelling and a twisting ear for production.

Mooder’s latest single, “Habits,” is a breathless portrait of Mooder’s gruesome reality—surrounded by violence, but laughing in the face of death and drinking snake venom. He also works in levity with a few outrageous punchlines (“Lil’ bitch said he ready to fish fry ‘em, we gon’ grill ‘em”). “Habits” mops up the mess made by lesser songs about the trenches.
