Lucky Daye — “Over”
2021 is shaping up to be the Year of Lucky Daye. The New Orleans-bred, LA-based singer’s big break came in 2019, with the release of his GRAMMY-nominated Painted album. Though Daye was active in the songwriting realm for years, the album’s lead single “Roll Some Mo” spread like wildfire, while his latest collaboration EP, Table For Two, chiseled Lucky’s name into the contemporary R&B conversation.
“Over,” Lucky Daye’s first solo release of the year, is an interpolation of the 2002 Musiq Soulchild classic “Halfcrazy.” Lucky breathes new life into the traditional soundscape of the genre, inserting modern discourse on mixed signals and toxic entanglements. On a bed of acoustic guitar and soft kicks, the crooner entices listeners with a plush blanket of buttery vocals as he plays emotional tug-o-war with his lover.
