Washington, D.C. and the surrounding DMV area was once known for go-go and dancehall, but in the past few years, we’ve seen the DMV absolutely explode onto the national hip-hop stage. With the massive success of GoldLink’s “Crew,” the impressive come up of Rico Nasty, and the biting appeal of Maryland upstart IDK, the area is now known for three things: hits, energy, and storytelling.

Specially curated by Paris Cole, Audiomack is proud to present the Hometown Heroes of Washington, D.C.. Living in D.C., working with Beyond Studios, and doing business development for Creative Theory Agency, Paris is plugged into every corner of the D.C. creative scene. She has an ear for talent, and understands the sheer range of sounds coming out of the area.

Featuring one of the greatest wordsmiths of our generation, Oddisee, alongside the likes of Rico Nasty and IDK, and TrapHouseJazz maestro Masego, this playlist showcases the breadth of artists coming out of the DMV and moving music forward. From lyrical exercises to esoteric and jazz compositions, to aggressive bangers and gut wrenching storytelling, every facet of hip-hop lives, breathes, and thrives in the D.C. area.
