The ‘girasoul’ EP is Pell in bloom.
New Orleans-raise artist Pell has been finding himself since his 2014 LP Floating While Dreaming, and on his latest EP, girasoul, that journey has finally come to a close. The EP finds Pell in his pocket in terms of brightness, wordplay, and personality, yet the sound is more refined and true to Pell’s NOLA roots as well as his time in LA. With features from Chicago’s Saba and New York singer VÉRITÉ, girasoul stands to be Pell’s most full bodied project to date.
The EP’s title is a play on the Spanish word for sunflower, “girasol,” with Pell adding the “u” to signify both the project’s sound and his own personal growth. “seeds” underscores the importance of patience while “chirpin’” is focused on living life in the present. For the length, the range on the project is admirable and allows us to dial in to Pell’s artistry and humanity. The girasoul EP is Pell in bloom.
