J. White Talks Building Relationships, Maintaining Creative Hunger & Making Music During the Pandemic for ‘Beyond the Beat’

By Cheyenne Watson on

GRAMMY Award-winning producer J. White Did It shouldn’t be slept on. The Kansas City native, born Anthony Jermaine White, began receiving recognition in the music industry for crafting the beat behind Cardi B’s breakthrough single, “Bodak Yellow,” in 2017.

Although he’s been producing for almost a decade, J. White’s biggest successes have come in the past few years: Cardi’s “I Like It” with J. Balvin and Bad Bunny, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” and the GRAMMY-winning “a lot” by 21 Savage and J. Cole.

For the latest episode of Audiomack’s Beyond the Beat series, hosted by Billboard Hip-Hop Editor Carl Lamarre, J. White breaks down how he got started working with Cardi B in the early stages of her career, making quality music in the midst of a pandemic, and his best advice for aspiring producers trying to break into the industry.
