Goapele — “Look at Us” feat. Rexx Life Raj

Advocating for youth empowerment is R&B singer Goapele’s mission, as evidenced by her involvement in the Hulu original documentary, Homeroom, executive produced by Ryan Coogler. The Bay Area singer, along with a host of other Bay Area artists, came together for a lush soundtrack aimed at scoring the highs and lows of being a high schooler in the time of COVID and the latest wave of racial injustice. It’s a powerful take on this harrowing time in American history.

Opening track “Look at Us,” featuring the unstoppable Rexx Life Raj, swells with purpose. Goapele’s passionate vocal gives body to the messages of community permeating the track. Raj’s warm voice adds a welcome layer of familiarity. Both artists sound enthused and serious about making a difference. “Look at Us” gives voice to the disenfranchised and overlooked to resounding effect.

“I wanted ‘Look at Us’ as a song to directly reflect the perseverance of the youth in the Homeroom documentary,” Goapele tells Audiomack World. “It’s easy to feel invisible and frustrated, especially as a youth and I also remember how empowering it was for me in high school when I got involved in youth activism and realized that our collective voices and movements actually do have an impact on society.”
