glaive & ericdoa — “handle me”
A meeting of the hyperpop minds landed October 6 with the release of glaive and ericdoa’s collaborative effort, then i’ll be happy. The project follows glaive’s successful and brisk all dogs go to heaven and erica’s 2020 album COA. Both young artists can be credited for the explosion of the warping and cacophonous sound hyperpop has taken on in the hip-hop fringe. Their pairing is natural—they’ve worked together in the past to breakthrough success—and helps legitimize the direction of hyperpop’s future.
then i’ll be happy rushes forward across 15 minutes, with “handle me” opting for a poppier, friendlier soundscape. It’s the closest thing to a ballad either artist has released. Their vocal textures complement each other well while discussing the finer things in life: bouncing off the walls, screaming, hate-fucking, and wasting away at the mall. “I don’t care in the slightest” glaive decries to close out the tune.
“We made that on the last night of our writing trip in North Carolina,” ericdoa tells Audiomack World. “It was our first attempt at doing something really poppy. We weren’t sure how it was gonna turn out but it ended up being one of my favorites off the project.”
“‘handle me’ was one of the first songs Eric and I made together,” glaive adds. “I don’t usually make slower songs but think it fits perfectly in our project.”
