Chiiild — “Eventually”

Montreal-based Chiiild combines dreamy tones with funk grooves to create an irresistible summer energy and challenge antiquated notions of where Black artists can take their sound. The alt-pop artist first caught listeners’ attention with his 2020 EP Synthetic Soul, and pulls inspiration from The Weeknd, Bob Marley, and Jimi Hendrix. Across his work, Chiiild deals in something he calls “future nostalgia,” summoning images of memories we’ve yet to make.

His latest single, “Eventually,” teasing his July album Hope For Sale, has the potential to ring off at every backyard hangout, with coasting vocals and thick bass notes reminiscent of the sun’s golden-hour warmth. “Eventually” follows “Sleepwalking” and “Awake” with Mahalia, and further cements Chiiild as a welcome disruptor in the pop space.

“‘Eventually’ was a bridge song from Synthetic Soul to Hope For Sale,” Child tells Audiomack. “The sound and content of this song melds the two projects together, their two respective worlds and sounds.”
