Charli XCX — “New Shapes” feat. Christine and the Queens & Caroline Polachek

Charli XCX has spent the better half of the past decade on the cutting edge, helping thrust pop music headfirst into its digitized future. Her 2020 album how i’m feeling now is a true product of COVID-19’s quarantine and features the frenetic hyperpop “anthems” fans have come to adore. September’s “Good Ones” was relatively tame for the pop star, more focused on glam than bursting speakers. It signaled a change for a forthcoming album.

New Shapes,” Charli’s latest single in the “Good Ones” vein, features Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek, and amps the energy right back up. Whatever you want, Charli XCX has got it. Beneath the party aesthetics, there’s a measure of introspection here from all three singers. Escaping into the Charli XCX universe won’t solve all your problems, but it will get you pretty close.
