Bella Alubo — “Offend Me” feat. Blaqbonez

Nigeria’s Bella Alubo does not pull punches. Straddling lines of alternative R&B, Afropop, hip-hop, and disparate sounds of the broader diaspora, her music moves the body. A natural poet, Bella first caught ears with her YCee collab, Late Night Vibrations. re-BELLA soon followed, along with Summer’s Over in 2019 and Popstar in 2020. Slowly building her prolific status, Bella Buffet arrived earlier this summer. The title is a cheeky reminder of the sheer indulgence baked into Alubo’s tunes.

The Blaqbonez-assisted “Offend Me” is the clear album standout. With searing production from long-time collaborator Syn X, the single pulls together those aforementioned diaspora sounds to create an earworm. Usual subjects—sex, love, confusion—make an appearance as Bella Alubo’s attractive and tinny timbre takes us home. “Offend Me” tackles the chasm between emotional and physical needs being met, and is a great anthem to bring us into cuffing season.
