ABRA — “Unlock It” feat. Playboi Carti

Pressing play on ABRA’s music is like being plunged into the darkest corners of the R&B sphere. In the Atlanta-based artist’s world, past and future collide, culminating in an ethereal blend of ‘80s-inspired pop-soul and surrealism. Her 2015 projects, BLQ VELVET and Rose, triggered ripples in the underground, blasting her and former collective/label Awful Records into the mainstream music conversation.

Unlock It,” ABRA’s comeback single after a six-year hiatus—and her first release since signing to Polo Grounds Music earlier this year—finds the singer-songwriter in a state of cryptic longing. With spunky production by Boys Noize and a high-spirited guest verse from Playboi Carti, ABRA continues to make headway in her unique brand of rhythm and blues.

“‘Unlock It’ means so much to me for more reasons than I can count, and as someone very sentimental and nostalgic, it is truly a blessing to be able to unlock the next level of my career with a friend,” ABRA tells Audiomack World. “I’ve always been so proud of what Carti’s been able to achieve and having the fortune of reuniting with him for this song specifically feels like a trophy to what the song is about: validation for the long winding journey it took to get here and makes me feel a little more at home in this crazy new world I’m about to step into!”
