Roy Woods is a win for Drake’s OVO label. Wood’s debut EP, ‘Exis,’ stormed Billboard charts and his unique blend of confidence and vulnerability evidenced him to be more than just a one-hit-wonder. Sounding right at home on the OVO label, Woods delivers “Balance,” a refreshing single from his album, ‘Say Less,’ which is sure to cement Woods’ name in the R&B scene.
Produced by Nineteen85, “Balance” is moody ear candy at its most refined. Roy Woods taps labelmate DVSN as well as XXL Freshman PnB Rock to lay down some brooding verses over dancey production. “Balance,” then, thrives off juxtapositions, with the syncopated rhythms and crisp drums offsetting the emotion and sentiment packed into the track. The track is as relatable as it is irresistible, a single that proves Roy Woods is a capable hit-maker moving music forward.
