Selasi was born in Ghana, West Africa while his father and mom where both born in Nigeria. He lived in Ghana but traveled all over the continent of Africa from Cameroon, Nigeria, and Malawi to Zimbabwe and South Africa as a child. “My father was a computer analyst, but later became a preacher; so my musical foundation came originally from the church. I don’t mean just one type of church, his soul-searching journey took us from the Catholic Church to non-denominational church and each time I found myself in the band or music ministry. I used to run from where my mother was sitting to where the band was playing and I’d sit and study the drummer, pick up the sticks, and imitate whatever he was doing. It was natural for me; I could hear a rhythm or melody and just start playing.
