Ramsey “Pharoah” Hicks Jr. grew up around all types of music. His grandfather was a sax player/jazz musician and his father was a piano player and vocalist. This instilled the love and appreciation for music in a very young Pharoah, which would soon thereafter grow into a passion for him; he started rapping with his cousins around the age of 9 years old. As Pharoah grew older, and really started to understand music, he began writing poetry and more serious lyrical content for his rap.
Pharoah was also influenced by other well-known rap artists “Notorious B.I.G.” and “Jay-Z”. It was around the same time in high school that he hooked up with fellow rappers Joseph Lewis, Billie Davis, and Byron “Keenky” Williams; they immediately became friends and started a rap group known as the “Top Notch
