Garveymeade, Portmore has always been known to nurture some of the most prolific Jamaicans
involved in arts and entertainment. The legacy is carved out by the pioneers who walked the streets
before - ska and reggae pioneer Clancy Eccles, actor Carl Bradshaw (José in The Harder They Come),
Frisco Kid, Mr. Wong’s Ten Times Strong Studio, keyboardist Ansel Collins and Tyrone Taylor.
Nuff-A- Dat Records was raised right in the midst of all of this.
“The aura of Garveymead,” says Producer Robert ‘Lion’ Mais, “there was creativity everywhere. And
anything we do in the scheme there’s an energy, a motivational energy. We had an energy here
where we support each other with whatever you are up to that is about wellbeing. For me that has
always been music.”
