Joey Black was born and raised in the South Jamaica Queens, neighborhood of New York City. He became interested in Hip- Hop and started rapping at the age of fourteen. He grew up listening to, and was heavily influenced by artists like Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short, Nas, 2 Live Crew, Outkast, Snoop Dogg and Sir Mix-A-Lot.
“Black” as he’s affectionately called by those who know him, Started rapping professionally at the age of seventeen. He would enter and win local talent shows and contests where he showed his skills as a live performer. In later years, he would generate a major buzz for himself by releasing several mix-tapes and traveling throughout the East Coast as an opening act for Rap artists such as, Rick Ross, Mr. Cheeks and Cam’ron.
