HIP HOP POETRY PROJECT is a partnership between Prison Performing Arts and the Family Court - Juvenile Division. It is an intensive performing arts residency during spring break at the St. Louis City Juvenile Detention Center. It includes classes in writing, performance, dance and design. Each residency culminates with a live performance for youth participant’s families, Family Court and Detention staff, and community members. Prison Performing Arts and Family Court - Juvenile Division partnered for the first version of the Hip Hop Poetry Project during spring break of 2004 and has been held annually every spring break since when regular classes are not in session and youth remain in the St. Louis City Juvenile Detention Center.
