Buddha Lee Raye was born at St. John’s Hospital in Queens and moved around a lot as a youth before stopping in the Lower East Side. In his music he meshes metaphors, multisyllabic rhyme cadences, with a blues like swing and pimp flow. There are no gimmicks. And he isn’t singing to an ex, or competing for the love of a woman, whose with another man. If anything, he’s trying to get a couple nuts off and help black boys feel okay if they suffer from depression.
