Born Bongiwe Silinda in Boschfontein, Nkomazi (Mpumalanga,SA)Bongi has been singing since childhood as she was born into a musical family.
She is currently in studio recording her 12 tracks album, working with award-winning producer with a magic touch Mojalefa “Mjakes” Thebe.
The first single off the album is titled Buya and features the SAMA award winning dou Soul Kulture which is available on iTunes and other digital stores.
The yet-to-released album "Twenty7"is a fusion of afrosoul, Pop & RnB music.Affectionately known as Bongi; in 2009, she enrolled into University of KwaZulu-Natal to study for a national diploma in jazz and popular music. She dropped after getting busy due to the following and popularity she gained while being part of another talent show, Coca-Cola Popstars in 2010.
She studied drama and arts administration at Monnyth Art House. In the next year she took part in the iShashalazi drama festival; where she was part of the cast Next Sunday that was showing at the Market Theatre for three weeks.
Bongi is proud to have worked with the great Vusi Mahlasela and was part of the live CD recording Sing To The People that was recorded at The Lyric Theatre and was soon released in 2013.In 2014; she entered Idols SA and was the first black female to make it to the finale, where she finished as runner up. This led to many bestowed upon her, including the prestigious MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture’s Special Recognition award.
In the same year also released her hit single “If I Got You”. 2015; she was a lead female singer for the game show on etv called “I Love South Africa”.Sheperformed at the State of the Province Address (SOPA) in Mpumalanga Province.
Bongi was part of the Celebrity Charity Benefit fashion show that took place in Melrose Arch’s High Street. She was also part of the Telkom Future Talk where she was one of the key speakers motivating and sharing her musical journey with the youth.
